Indie bands/singers logo's

This is the "Arctic Monkeys" logo. The main colours are black and white, with writing that seems to go diagonal. This logo is very simple but is very effective. The white writing on the black background makes it stand out and makes it easier for fans to recognise them by their logo. Although at first glance the writing seems to be in a straight line, the more you look at it the more it seems to be on a slant.

This is logo for the singer "Hozier". I really like this logo, because of again the colour scheme makes it stand out, but also because of the font choice. The writing looks like someone has just scribbled down his name, and the ink spots suggest carelessness. Also the letters are slightly smudged, again suggesting how quickly someone has written this. I think this logo shows the personality of the singer and makes the logo more personal.

This is a logo for the band "foster the people". I like this logo as well. I like the way that the circle is clearly made to look like it has been coloured in. I also like the way the writing of the name of the band is made to fit the circle. The words are curved into the shape to fit instead of the circle fitting the words.
Again, the main cover scheme in this logo is black and white. The circle represents unity, something that doesn't have a beginning or an end.

This is the "Nirvana" logo. This colour scheme is a little different to the rest. The yellow in this logo is meant to represent energy and joy, while the black colour stands for power and supremacy. The smiley face is meant to represent death, and shows a complete stage of happiness. But again, similar to the rest of the logo's it has a black background, making it stand out and eye catching.
This is the "Paramore" logo. I really like the font of this logo, because it looks like it has been scratched into something. The font makes the writing look it has been written in the air using sparklers. I really like this font because of how different each letter is. Each letter has a different shape and some are even missing lines, I think this makes the logo very memorable.
This is "The Smiths" logo. This logo is very simplistic, with the dominating colour being black for the text. The text is in a simple row, and they have used a very professional font. All of the font is in capitals as well, creating a sense of power from the logo.

Flat plan of my music magazine

I am unsure yet what my front cover is going to look like, and it may not look like this at all. But I have a vague idea of what I want it too look like. I obviously want the masthead to be at the top of the page. The light blue box represents where the title is going to be. And the large purple shape in the background represents where the main image of my model is going to be.  The main image of my model will have their head slightly over the masthead. This will make it look more interesting and appealing. Also the little purple boxes put at different angles represent other pictures I will be using on my magazine cover. On this diagram I have not put boxes for text but I will also include text on my front cover. There will be a main cover line across the front of the main image, either quoting something the model has said or something to do with her type of music. There will also be other cover lines describing the other, smaller images.

For the double pages spread, I am going to have a large picture  of my main model across  the top of the page to make them the main focus. This is represented by a large purple rectangle. There will also be a large heading across the top of the main although this is not shown in the plan. The heading will be either the name of the singer or the duet, I have not decided this yet.
The light blue box below it represents the slogan I will be putting there, it will be something that will also be included in the interview. Below that there is another light blue box, here I will have an interview between me and my main model, and below that I will have other pictures of that, that will have something to do with the subject of
the interview.
This was my original plan for my double page spread, but I rethought my design and I feel it is breaking to many magazine conventions. I feel that the divide in the middle of the page will be a problem and if I was to use more than one model, they may get lost in where the page folds. So I have changed my ideas for my double page spread to look like this. This magazine cover follows the normal grid layout and is more conventional to a magazine. Although, I am going to try and make it more interesting, because I feel this is a more boring layout.

For the contents page, I am going to have a large box of text with pictures in side of it at different angles to make it more interesting. I will also write about the images. This is represented by the large blue box and the smaller purple boxes. The boxes to the right of it represent the bigger pictures that will have text underneath them explaining them. These pictures will be the bigger features with in the magazine.

Preliminary Task

This is my preliminary task
For my preliminary task, I had to create a school magazine, and I choose to do a magazine for my school.
In my preliminary project, I only knew how to use photoshop to do basic things, but in my preliminary I used photoshop and learned how to do some more complex things.
So on my real task, my music magazine I will have more knowledge on how to use photoshop.
I have used a total of four photos on the front cover, but on my real magazine, I will make my front cover busier. I have learnt from my preliminary, that it is hard to manage the space on the cover, because it was hard to fit just three photos on the front.
From taking the photos for my front cover, I have also learnt that taking photos with good lighting is also difficult and found this a major problem when taking photos that I could use for my preliminary magazine.
Also the font, for my real magazine I will spend more time on finding the right font that matches my magazine genre. Because on this magazine, the font is very professional and I picked it because I thought it looked more formal. Whereas in a music magazine, the font can be less formal and as I am doing an indie magazine, the font can be different.

The contents page was easier to make compared to the front cover. For my music magazine, I will use more then three photos, and again make it busier. I like the layout of my contents page, but it is very formal compared to what I will do for my music magazine. I have learnt from making my contents that taking photos at the right angle is very important. I took both landscape and portrait photos, but found that the portrait photos where easier to use and change, to how I wanted them too look. Again, the font in this page is very formal as it is a school magazine. Also the contents page is laid out in a grid form, which will be very similar to my real magazine contents.
